A teenage boy died in a car accident in Indio on Sunday.

Indio Police Department spokesman Benjamin Guitron said the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Indio Boulevard and Fargo Street at 5:23 p.m. Officers found three cars, a sedan and two SUVs, had collided when they arrived at the scene.

A driver and 14-year-old boy were inside the sedan, Guitron said. The boy, which the Riverside County coroner's office identified as Anthony Alvarado Lemus, died at the scene. Everyone else involved in the accident, including the driver of the sedan, were transported to the hospital with moderate or serious injuries and were in stable condition as of Monday, Guitron added.

An investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing. Guitron asked anyone who was where the fatal collision occurred to call Valley Crime Stoppers anonymously at 760-341-7867 or contact the Indio police department.

I know it’s not my family, but it still feels like a kick in the gut hearing someone so young dying in such a way, in any way, really. Sincere condolences.😞
