Krispy Kreme has a new deal right in time for a day the superstitious are wary of.

Krispy Kreme announced in a news release Wednesday that customers can get a dozen original glazed doughnuts for 13 cents with the purchase of any dozen or 16-count minis at regular price .

The deal is available at participating locations, good for one customer, and online or for delivery when using promo code "13" on Krispy Kreme’s app.

History of Friday the 13th and origin

Friday the 13th’s reputation for bad luck largely originates from religious and cultural beliefs. In Christianity, it is associated with the Last Supper, where Judas, the 13th guest, betrayed Jesus, leading to his crucifixion on a Friday, according to USA TODAY .

Norse mythology also contributes, with the 13th god, Loki, bringing chaos and death.

This superstition deepened over time, particularly after the mass arrest of the Knights Templar on Friday, October 13th, 1307, further cementing the day’s unlucky status.

There's one more Friday the 13th in 2024, and it falls in December. The next one after that will come in June 2025.
