$29,000 per night? Two California Airbnb properties among most expensive in the U.S.

Two California homes are among the most expensive Airbnb rental properties in the nation, according to a recent study.

A report by BestBrokers examined Airbnb prices across the country to seek out the priciest, based on the cost of a seven-night stay during the peak vacation rental month of July 2024. It factored in details such as property type, cost per night, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, maximum guest capacity and amenities.

Topping the list in California was a 10,000-square-foot, five-bedroom house in Indo at $29,367 per night, including fees, or $205,567 per week, according to BestBroker. The property was ranked ninth most expensive in the nation.

"All five bedrooms are en-suites as the master leads to an expansive backyard," the report said. "The property boasts ample space for both entertaining and relaxation and can host more than 16 people. It provides many luxuries, including a home theater, basketball court, mini golf, putting green grass, BBQ grill and a massive pool."

Second priciest in California, and 14th in the country, was the Modern Cielo villa in Palm Springs. The four-bedroom home on two acres includes a pool and overlooks a two acres of cactus gardens, according to the report. It rented for $25,688 per night, or $179,818 per week.

Where is the most expensive Airbnb rental in the U.S.?

The most costly Airbnb in the nation was the Riverbend House in Aspen, Colorado, at $55,729 per night, or $390,100 per week, BestBrokers found.

"Tucked away in the enchanting residential haven of Aspen, Colorado, this luxurious 15,000-square-foot villa, situated on 6.5 acres along the serene banks of the Roaring Fork River, is just a short walking distance from downtown," the report noted. "It features eight bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms that can accommodate more than 16 guests. The property includes amenities such as a chef’s kitchen, a fitness center, an outdoor pool, and a private theater."

Nationally, the average cost of a nightly Airbnb rental was about $216.

Founded in 2007 in San Francisco, Airbnb "has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 1.5 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe," according to the company.

It has over 8 million listings worldwide in more than 100,000 cities in over 220 countries.
