A student from Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School in La Quinta was briefly hospitalized Tuesday after another student assaulted him.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded to a fight between two male juveniles at noon Tuesday, according to a sheriff's department spokesperson, who added that one juvenile struck the other multiple times on the head with his fists and feet. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released later that day, and the suspect was booked into juvenile hall for assault with great bodily injury.

"While privacy laws prevent us from sharing specific details, we can confirm that school staff and emergency services responded quickly, and the matter is being investigated by local authorities," said Tamara Wadkins, the public information officer for Desert Sands Unified School District. "We understand this may have caused distress, and additional support is available for students who need it. We are dedicated to creating a safe, supportive school environment and will keep working to prevent incidents and promote positive student relationships."

Thank God I no longer have kids in school and if I did it wouldn't be in public school!

Such a shame, kids can't go to school anymore without being killed or other accidents
