The 2024-2025 Rogers Scholars at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus were celebrated at the annual Rogers Scholarship reception held Oct. 1 at the Tommy Bahama Miramonte Resort & Spa in Indian Wells.

Each year, the recipients of the prestigious Rogers Scholarship are honored at a special reception where they meet members of the Rogers family.

Edna Martinez, CSUSB Palm Desert Campus associate vice president, welcomed guests and introduced members of the Rogers family, who have been committed to providing scholarships to PDC students since 1994. Ray Watts, associate vice president for the Office of Philanthropic Giving, thanked the Rogers family for their continued support of the PDC's students and provided inspirational remarks to the students in attendance. Avi Rodriguez, executive director of Student Engagement and Completion at PDC, emceed the event.

"We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our Rogers Scholarship recipients," Martinez said. "This prestigious program reflects our commitment to fostering academic excellence, leadership and community engagement. These students embody the qualities that make our institution strong, and we are excited to support their continued growth and success as they pursue their educational and professional aspirations."

Each scholarship recipient received a special ring and gave a short speech to thank the Mary Stuart Rogers Foundation and those in their life who have contributed to their success.

The 2024-2025 Rogers Scholars are: Jasmin Nichols, nursing; Adriana Oliva, nursing; MariaElena Pantoja, nursing; Logan Salabaj, English literature; Shekaila Alvez, nursing; Reyna Dominguez, psychology; Shawn Fisher, psychology; Stephanie Grantell, psychology; Andrea Pass, nursing; and Crystal Romero, psychology and Spanish.

The Mary Stuart Rogers Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus.

The recipients, called "Rogers Scholars," must demonstrate a sincere commitment to their own personal growth, compile outstanding academic records, demonstrate leadership qualities and show a desire to serve their fellow students and communities. The scholarship is merit-based and only awarded to the top students at the campus.

This year's scholars will join a distinguished group of past recipients who have gone on to make significant contributions in diverse fields, reinforcing the impact the Rogers Scholarship program has on the educational and professional trajectories of its recipients.

Since its establishment, the Rogers Scholarship program has awarded more than $2 million to students at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus.
