Detroit City Distillery adds new Michigan, Kentucky blended bourbon to lineup

Detroit City Distillery has added a new bourbon to its permanent lineup of spirits that pairs with another region's popular bourbon.

Its new Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon blends Kentucky wheated bourbon with 50% Detroit City Distillery (DCD) bourbon made from Michigan grains that hail from local farms.

This new bourbon, aged a minimum of four years in oak barrels, is 100 proof and Detroit City Distillery says it has many nuances. There's "fresh apple, balanced by the sweetness of molasses." Its "smoky notes of cigar are complemented by orange marmalade with a smooth vanilla and buttery toffee, and a final spicy kick of black pepper."

The bourbon will make its debut at a release party set for 4-11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the distillery's tasting room at 2462 Riopelle St. in Detroit's Eastern Market. Guests can buy bottles from the distillery's first batch and sample whiskey flights and bourbon cocktails. There will also be a limited-run Detroit vs. Kentucky cocktail menu.

“We like to say this bourbon was inspired by 100 years of dishonest activities in search of an honest drink,” JP Jerome, master distiller and co-owner, said in a news release.  “Others may say it’s blasphemous to blend Michigan and Kentucky whiskey, but we wouldn’t be who we are if we didn’t make what we like to drink. Our Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon represents the best of Michigan combined with fine Kentucky Bourbon. Finding new combinations that work is really what we’re all about.”

Detroit City Distillery is known for its award-winning small-batch artisanal bourbon, whiskey, rye, gin, and vodka. They're made using many locally sourced ingredients at its site in the Eastern Market area. Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon 750-millimeter bottles, $55 each, can be purchased at the distillery's tasting room or online for in-person pick up at detroitcitydistillery.com . Later this year, the bourbon will be available at liquor and grocery stores. For information, visit the Detroit City Distillery website .
