Belle Isle is welcoming back a historic statue dedicated to a local charity figure after restoration.

Crews reinstalled a statue dedicated to Detroit Goodfellows founder James J. Brady on Belle Isle Friday morning. The bronze statue sits on a white marble monument on Central Avenue at Belle Isle.

The local charity organization was founded in 1914 and provides children in several Wayne County communities with Christmas gifts, according to its website . The statue, originally installed in 1928, features Brady holding a newspaper and a girl taking refuge with Brady, the organization said.

The statue had been removed for restoration work over the summer, the organization said.
