Whether students needed new suits for a school event or a young professional had nothing to wear for a first time job interview, Suit Up Sunday was there to help, providing free suits, dress pants, shirts and accessories for men.

The collaboration among Right Productions Inc., Van Dykes Menswear of Southfield and radio station Mix 92.3 allowed dozens of young people to receive dressy attire at no cost.

Everything from black and navy to stripes and polka dots, people who needed a suit could find one after shuffling through racks that lined the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre on Sunday.

"We have a commitment to this community. Together with the inventory (Van Dykes Menswear of Southfield) had available and the space we have, we worked together to make this possible for the young people here in Detroit," said event organizer Shahida Mausi, CEO and presidents of Right Productions.

Also at the event, young people could register to vote, event supporter Chase Bank provided financial literacy resources and information, and F.A.R.M. ( Family Assistance for Renaissance Men ) provided wraparound services and information to assist fathers.

"A lot of times your first impression is a lasting impression. Sometimes believe it or not, it can all boil down to clothes. You can be the best at everything else and you might need a little extra boost to feel better about yourself, " said Walt Shannon, manager and buyer at Van Dykes Menswear.
