Biden returning to Michigan next Friday

President Joe Biden will visit Michigan again next Friday, the White House said on Thursday afternoon.

No other details regarding where the president will go or when on Friday were made available. It was not known whether the event would be open to the public.

The White House said only that Biden "will travel to Michigan to discuss how his Investing in America agenda is benefiting communities across Michigan and ensuring Americans have a brighter, more prosperous future."

The visit will come four days after Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee for president this year, is set to visit metro Detroit on Labor Day. After that visit, Harris was scheduled to go to Pittsburgh for a Labor Day event with Biden.

The presidential campaigns and their surrogates have made numerous visits to Michigan, which is expected to be a battleground state this fall. On Thursday, former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, spoke in Potterville, making his second trip to the state in a week; two days earlier, his vice presidential nominee JD Vance, spoke in Big Rapids .

Biden last came to Michigan on July 12, delivering a fiery speech at Renaissance High in Detroit even as some Democrats called for him to step aside as the party's nominee, raising questions about his age and mental and physical acumen. Biden stepped aside as nominee later that month, endorsing Harris, who visited metro Detroit for a large rally on Aug. 7.

Biden's visit will also be his first to the state since he and his administration in early August finalized a historic prisoner swap with Russia that resulted in a Novi man, Paul Whelan, r eturning to the U.S. after more than five years in Russian captivity.
