Game notes: It’s Tarik Skubal Day at Comerica Park — following a tribute to the 1984 Tigers’ World Series championship team, that is. Skubal, the all-but-certain AL Cy Young winner, will eventually be on the mound as he tries to become the majors' first 16-game winner as well as the first Tiger to win 16 games in a season since Justin Verlander in 2016. It’s Skubal’s first start against the BoSox this season; he faced them last year in Boston and allowed five runs (four earned) in 5<AF>1/3<XA> innings of a 5-2 Tigers loss on Aug. 11, 2023.

After tonight's game, the Tigers and Red Sox wrap up their series with a 1:40 p.m. start Sunday, with rookie Ty Madden making his second career start for the Tigers. And then, it's a trip to San Diego for a three-games-in-four-days series against the Padres beginning Monday.
