Game notes: The Tigers take on the Athletics in a series for the final time in Oakland, and Saturday is the middle game. Friday's epic opener lasted 13 innings, with the Tigers unable to hold leads in the 10th, 11th and 12th innings , losing 7-6.

The Tigers are now 5½ games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League, and need to jump three teams (Boston, Seattle and Minnesota).
