Game notes: The Tigers close their series with the Athletics on Sunday as they try and notch a series win after bouncing back with a 2-1 win on Saturday. Friday's series opener went into the 13th inning as the Tigers weren't able to hang on in extra innings, losing 7-6.

With the win, the Tigers moved up a half game in the wild-card standings and still need to chase the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox.

The Tigers will be rolling with an opener again on Sunday in the series finale , a strategy they have used successfully to get back into the playoff mix, despite having just two healthy starting pitchers for much of the run.

After wrapping up their series on Sunday, the Tigers will travel back to Detroit to host the Colorado Rockies as they continue their unlikely push for one of the final playoff spots.
