Calvin Johnson voices Detroit Lions hype video for Sunday Night Football broadcast

Detroit Lions fans have waited all summer for Sunday night.

And finally, it has arrived.

The Lions kick off the 2024 season full of expectations Sunday night at home against the Los Angeles Rams. NBC will broadcast the game for a national audience to kick off the Sunday primetime slate for 2024. Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth will voice the game, just as they did for the Lions' win over the Rams in the playoffs. The national audience will also witness the network's 90-second hype video for the Lions season as Super Bowl contenders.

Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson narrates the video in a snappy Honolulu Blue Starter jacket and delivers a trip down memory lane that'll surely get Lions fans jacked up.

"I spent a lot of time in this stadium, a lot of Sundays, a lot of memories," Johnson says in the clip, while walking down the Ford Field tunnel. "But man, there is something different, something special, something magical about those two nights in January last year. It still gives me chills thinking about it now."

As Johnson delivers the message, scenes of a rabid crowd and big plays from the Lions' two playoff wins flash. It then transitions back to Megatron at midfield.

"We were one game from the Super Bowl," Johnson said, breaking the fourth wall. "You realize I played a season here where we didn't even win one game? That's why the playoffs meant so much to all these people and this city. That's why it's so exciting that this feels like just the start."

It is the first of five primetime matchups for Detroit. The Lions will have a national audience for the rematch of January's playoff game against Matthew Stafford and the Rams. The Lions snapped the longest active playoff victory drought in the league in its wild-card opener to kick off a playoff run that ended in the NFC championship game.

Of course, Johnson acknowledged his former teammate would be back in town trying to put a damper on the start of the Lions' season.

"The next chapter kicks off with our old quarterback coming to town for a little rematch," Johnson said. "The Detroit Lions : Super Bowl contenders kicking off Sunday Night Football. Get used to the sound of that, America, and let 'em hear you, Detroit."
