The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notification for 1,227,808 of 2019 and 2021-24 Ram 1500 pickups in the U.S. for a software malfunction.

The recall rep ort said that software malfunctions can cause the antilock brake system control module to disable the electronic stability control system. If a driver operates the vehicle with a disabled electronic stability control system, it can increase the risk of a crash, the report said.

In addition, Stellantis said it is recalling 7,299 of its MOPAR ABS modules used as a replacement part in the recalled vehicles.

The automaker, which owns Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler brands in its global portfolio, "is unaware of any related injuries or accidents," Frank Matyok, a spokesperson for Stellantis said in a statement to USA TODAY. "In accordance with regulation, affected customers will be notified by first-class mail. The Company urges customers to follow the instructions therein."

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the ABS control module software. This service will be completed for free. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent on Oct. 3. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 85B.
