Kamala Harris and Donald Trump to debate: What time, how to watch and more

Voters in Michigan and throughout the U.S. will get the chance to see Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump square off Tuesday night, as the two major presidential candidates meet for a debate in Philadelphia.

Tuesday's debate, of course, is the first since Harris became the Democratic nominee, as well as the first since the June debate that torpedoed President Joe Biden's reelection campaign. In July, Biden ended his reelection bid after calls swelled for him to step aside following a poor debate performance. Now, two months after Biden's announcement, Harris and Trump will present their platforms to voters.

What time is the presidential debate?

Tuesday's presidential debate is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET.

How can I watch the presidential debate?

ABC News is hosting the debate, but viewers will have a host of other options to catch it live.

Along with ABC's cable channel (WYXZ-7 in Detroit), the debate can be live-streamed on ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu.

Other networks, including FOX, NBC, PBS and CBS will also simulcast the debate.

Viewers can also catch the debate on USA TODAY's YouTube channel.

What else should I know about Tuesday's debate?

ABC News' David Muir and Linsey Davis are moderating Tuesday night's debate, which is scheduled to last 90 minutes. Under rules agreed to by both campaigns , there will be no live audience.

Those rules also stipulate that mics will be muted when it is not the selected candidate's turn to speak. There will be no opening statements, and Trump will deliver his final statement after Harris, winning the right to choose the order of statements through a virtual coin toss, according to ABC News.

Philadelphia's selection as the host for Tuesday's debate isn't a coincidence; it's the largest city in Pennsylvania, a swing state key to either candidate's hopes of winning the election this November.

Are there other debates scheduled?

Right now, Tuesday's debate is the sole one scheduled between Harris and Trump. The two presidential campaigns have yet to agree on additional debates — Harris agreed to a second debate with Trump in October, but so far, Trump's campaign hasn't signed off on a second debate, according to USA T ODAY .

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and U.S. Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, Harris' and Trump's respective running mates, are slated to debate Oct. 1 in New York. That debate will be broadcast by CBS News.
