Penei Sewell, Marcus Davenport miss Detroit Lions practice

Penei Sewell did not practice Wednesday, but the Detroit Lions ' All-Pro right tackle said he feels "good" after injuring his right ankle in the first quarter of Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Rams .

Sewell got up slowly late in the first quarter after Dan Skipper blocked Rams safety Kamren Curl into the back of his right leg. Sewell stayed in the game and didn't miss a snap, and told the Free Press he sat out Wednesday's practice only for precautionary reasons.

"I'm good," Sewell said. "That's what it comes down to."

Sewell was one of three starters who did not practice Wednesday along with defensive end Marcus Davenport (groin) and safety Kerby Joseph (hamstring). Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) also did not practice, while undrafted rookie safety Loren Strickland returned after missing practice last week with a thumb injury.

The Lions (1-0) had their entire starting offensive line on the field Sunday — Sewell, Kevin Zeitler , Frank Ragnow, Graham Glasgow and Taylor Decker — for the first time since early in training camp, when Zeitler suffered a shoulder injury.

Last year, they started nine different combinations on their offensive line.

Davenport, one of the team's top free agent additions of the offseason, has a long injury history and played just four games last season with the Minnesota Vikings because of ankle surgery.

He had a strong Lions debut with a half-sack and four quarterback hits in 49 defensive snaps, but did not play on the Lions' final defensive series.

Joseph played 75 of 78 defensive snaps against the Rams and had a key first-half interception.
