Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown on lack of catches vs. Rams: 'A win is a win'

By Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press,

Amon-Ra St. Brown isn't worried about his lack of catches in the Detroit Lions ' Week 1 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

“A win is a win," St. Brown said Thursday. "A win’s the most important thing for us to get to where we need to go, one week at a time. Obviously, you'd love to have the catches and whatnot, yards, but we found a way to win."

Against the Rams, St. Brown caught three passes for 13 yards, his fewest receiving yards since Week 6 of the 2022 season.

DAVE BIRKETT'S FILM REVIEW: Amon-Ra St. Brown's quiet day just 'one of those games'

Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said the Rams didn't do anything out of the ordinary to eliminate St. Brown from the plan, and that St. Brown's limited production was more a function of what coverages the Rams were in on certain plays.

"All the balls that went to Jamo very easily could have gone to St. Brown," Johnson said, referring to Jameson Williams' breakout five-catch, 121-yard day.

On Sunday, the Lions (1-0) host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0), a team St. Brown torched for 20 catches, 211 yards and two touchdowns in two meetings last season.

Johnson said there won't be any extra emphasis on getting St. Brown more involved this week.

"He just wants to win," Johnson said. "I’ve been around some guys, particularly at that position in the past that when they have a game that was below what they wanted it to be, they could pout, they could do this, that or the other, but immediately after the game, I don’t know if anybody had a bigger smile on his face than him. That’s what comes with wearing that C on his chest (for being a captain) and he’s a great example of what we want everybody on offense to be about. Unselfish and he was happy that Jamo had the game that he had because he knows it’s going to open up more opportunities for him down the road.”

    Injury update

Penei Sewell (ankle), Marcus Davenport (groin) and Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) missed their second straight practice with injuries Thursday. Sewell told the Free Press on Wednesday he was "good" and sitting out only for precautionary reasons.

Kerby Joseph (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, and receiver Isaiah Williams was added to the practice report with an abdominal injury.
