Game notes: The Detroit Tigers start a critical series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, needing to rack up some more wins to keep the pressure on the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers lost on Thursday to the woeful Colorado Rockies despite having ace Tarik Skubal on the mound, missing out on an opportunity to gain ground on both the Twins and Royals, both of whom were not playing.

Of the final 15 games this year for the Tigers, six of them will be against the O's, which is not exactly great news for the Tigers. The Orioles are also in a playoff push and are just two games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East, meaning they certainly won't be taking their hand off the wheel in any of their six games against the Tigers.

Meanwhile, the Twins start a new series against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, so keep an eye on your sports app of choice to see if the Twins are able to add some cushion to their wild-card lead.
