    Good morning, today is Saturday.

Our forecast shows an expected high of 84 degrees . It'll be partly sunny and warm.

Today I'm turning the Daily Briefing over to my colleague Nushrat Rahman to share more about agencies that help refugees start new lives in Michigan.

Agencies that help refugees start new lives in Michigan, often after fleeing war and turmoil in their home countries, are expecting a surge in arrivals starting later this year. The increase comes at a time when Michigan is experiencing an acute housing shortage, making it that much more difficult for families to find affordable homes. At the same time, fewer agencies are resettling refugees in metro Detroit.

Agency leaders expect an uptick because the federal government has been admitting more refugees , especially as people escape instability in their countries. The nonprofit Samaritas is strained as it prepares to welcome more people and wants to hire additional staff to meet the increased need. Samaritas says it currently does not have enough funding to expand, but is accepting donations. The agency is also taking donations of furniture and household items in good condition, to help families as they get back on their feet.
