Game notes: After nearly throwing a combined perfect game on Friday, it was the Orioles pitching staff that stole the show on Saturday against the Tigers. All-Star game starting pitcher Corbin Burnes had the Tigers' hitters fooled all evening long, allowing just two hits and one walk over seven dominant innings. The Tigers finally were able to muster two runs in the ninth inning, but it was too little too late.

WHAT A TIME: Is this heaven? No, baby, it's the Motor City with the soaring Lions and surprising Tigers

Luckily for the Tigers, the Minnesota Twins got their butts kicked by the Cincinnati Reds, so despite the loss, they remain 2½ games behind with 13 games to play. (Seattle is also 2½ back, though the Tigers own the tiebreak; the Twins own the tiebreak over the Tigers ). The Twins host the Reds at 1:05 p.m., then visit the Cleveland Guardians for four games and Boston Red Sox for three.

The Tigers and Orioles will have their critical rubber match on Sunday, with rookie Keider Montero set to try and get his squad a crucial win to stay in the playoff race before another big series against the Kansas City Royals set to start Monday.
