New Mustang GTD is 'fastest, most powerful' in Mustang history, Ford says

Ford Motor Co. said Monday its new 2025 Mustang GTD "sets a new performance bar" with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque and a top speed of 202 mph, the most of any street-legal Mustang ever.

The Dearborn-based automaker said its aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes and inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers are key elements that will help it to accomplish a sub-seven-minute lap of the Nürburgring car racing track in Germany.

"We’ve been laser focused since day one to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang," Greg Goodall, chief program engineer for the Mustang GTD, said in a news release.

Ford said the 5.2-liter V8 engine improves on previous Mustang engines, and has a dry-sump oil system that can help keep the engine lubricated through sustained and demanding cornering.

That dry-sump oil system also enables a slightly elevated maximum engine speed of 7,650 rpm, up 100 rpm from the previous 5.2-liter V8 maximum, Ford said. Revised intake and exhaust, a standard titanium exhaust and a smaller supercharger pulley help achieve the engine output ratings, the automaker said.

The first round of applications for North American customers to purchase a Mustang GTD has already closed, said Brandon Turkus, a Ford spokesperson. Pricing for the vehicle is expected to start at about $325,000, Turkus said, adding that details of when the vehicles will be delivered will be shared closer to 2025 Mustang GTD's launch.
