Jane’s Addiction cancels tour, including Meadow Brook show, following onstage fight

An onstage fracas involving Jane’s Addiction members has led the band to abandon the rest of its 2024 tour, including a planned Sept. 20 show at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre.

Fans who purchased tickets online will receive automatic refunds; others can obtain refunds at their point of purchase.

The cancellation follows a scuffle between vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro during a Boston show Friday night, following a night of onstage bickering, according to reports. Clips of the incident went viral over the weekend, showing Farrell yelling at Navarro before lunging at him and throwing a punch. The singer was soon restrained by crew members and bass player Eric Avery.

“The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” read a statement issued Monday on the band’s official social media channels.

But a separate post shared by Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins went further, singling out Perry for his behavior and raising safety concerns for all four members of the pioneering alternative-rock band.

“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.“We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.“Our hearts are broken.”

The aborted Jane’s Addiction tour was the first to feature all four of the core members since 2010.
