Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell calls Eastern Market shooting 'tragic'

Dan Campbell , head coach of the Detroit Lions , on Monday addressed the fatal shooting at an Eastern Market tailgate, calling it "tragic."

"Anytime somebody loses their life, that's a tragic thing," he said at his Monday afternoon news conference at the team's facility in Allen Park, one day after the Lions ' 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Whoever that is has a family. I’m thinking about them and prayers go out to them, their family, their friends and it’s unfortunate," Campbell continued, referring to the victims.

Detroit police confirmed two people were shot and killed following a fight in Eastern Market, where hundreds were tailgating Sunday for a Lions home game .

A Detroit man in his 40s was killed, according to police. A second man in his 20s was critically injured and later died from his injuries.

As for the suspect, officers arrested a man from the Oakland County suburb of Oak Park who is in his 30s and is licensed to carry a gun.

Campbell said he doesn't know the details surrounding the shooting, but added: "As much as we can take care of each other, let's do that."
