Game notes: Man, that was fun.

The Detroit Tigers played one of – if not the most exciting games of their season on Monday, opening their crucial series against the Kansas City Royals with a 7-6 win while picking up a game against the Minnesota Twins in the wild-card race along the way. The Twins surrendered a lead to the Guardians, losing 4-3 while the Tigers' incredible run continued with one response after another at Kauffman Stadium.

The Tigers will have the tall task of trying to find that magic again Tuesday against another tough Royals pitcher, Cole Ragans, who is second in the American League in strikeouts behind only Tarik Skubal.

Meanwhile, the Tigers will have former No. 1 overall pick Casey Mize on the mound in a key spot. Mize has made three starts since returning from an extended stay on the injured list, posting a 5.63 ERA while giving up four home runs, but the Tigers are 2-1 in those games.
