Detroit Lions sign WR Allen Robinson to 53-man roster from practice squad

The Detroit Lions started the season with four wide receivers on their 53-man roster, and now they have six.

The Lions signed veteran receiver Allen Robinson from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Thursday, filling the spot left open after they placed Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes on injured reserve Tuesday.

Previously, the Lions signed veteran receiver Tim Patrick off the practice squad to fill one opening.

Both Patrick and Robinson signed with the Lions after roster cuts in August with an eye on competing for the No. 4 receiver spot. The Lions kept just four receivers on their initial 53-man roster spot: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond and Isaiah Williams.

Isaiah Williams has missed two games with an abdominal injury, and both Patrick and Robinson played as practice-squad elevations last week against the Arizona Cardinals.

Patrick, who also played in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, played 34 snaps and caught the only pass thrown his way for 8 yards against the Cardinals. Robinson played one snap and did not have a catch.

The Lions also re-signed linebacker Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad. Beauplan was with the team in training camp.
