Week 5 of the college football schedule further clarified the Big Ten Conference and which teams stand above the others.

For yet another week, No. 3 Ohio State proved to be the class of the conference , beating Michigan State 38-7 in East Lansing. Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard, who was hurt vs. the Spartans before returning, finished the day completing 21 of 31 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns to one interception.

Staying in the state of Michigan, Sherrone Moore's Wolverines squad held off a 21-point fourth quarter from Minnesota — with help from a controversial call on an onside kick — to beat the Golden Gophers 27-24 and remain unbeaten in Big Ten play.

Elsewhere, both Indiana and Rutgers remained undefeated on the season with wins vs. Maryland (42-28) and Washington (21-18), respectively. It's Indiana's first 5-0 start since 1967, while the Scarlet Knights advanced to 4-0 . Finally, No. 8 Penn State downed No. 21 Illinois 21-7 in the Big Ten's only ranked game of the day.

Here's how those games and more could affect the updated US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 rankings:
