March Madness is coming back to Detroit.

The Detroit Sports Commission announced on Wednesday the NCAA men's basketball tournament will host a regional at Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings and Pistons, in 2028.

The tournament is already scheduled to have the 2027 Final Four at Ford Field in Detroit , and the Big Ten women's basketball tournament in 2028 at Little Caesars Arena.

“From the record-breaking 2024 NFL Draft in April to the Division I Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional in March, this has been a historic year for Detroit,” Dave Beachnau , executive director of the Detroit Sports Commission (DSC), said in a released statement. “We’re grateful to the NCAA staff and committee for entrusting the DSC, our host institutions and partners with another Midwest Regional. This opportunity allows us to continue building momentum, showcase Detroit as a premier sports destination, and make a lasting impact on our community."

It will be the third time Little Caesars Arena has hosted a NCAA tournament regional. In 2024, fans flooded the city for three games , the last of which saw Purdue take down Tennessee to reach the Final Four. The venue also hosted early-round matchups in 2018.

MADNESS IN DETROIT: Little Caesars Arena a basketball stage? Yes it's true. It took breaking a 44-year drought.

Oakland University and the University of Detroit Mercy will serve as joint host schools.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with Oakland University and the Detroit Sports Commission on NCAA national events like the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament,” Robert Vowels, Detroit Mercy's athletic director, said in the statement. "It is a tremendous honor and privilege especially since as a University we have a proud history of hosting a number of NCAA Championships in the City of Detroit. The visibility and recognition of a premiere tournament on a national stage is exciting for the University, alumni, fans, and friends of the program.”
