ESPN has technical difficulties during Tigers vs Astros that 'sounds like the radio on TV'

When it comes to audio issues, you know it when you hear it. And that was the case in the bottom of the sixth inning of the Detroit Tigers' AL wild-card game against the Houston Astros.

ESPN's otherwise seamless broadcast quickly flashed to black with the Astros up to bat and then came back with audio sounding like it was coming over the radio.

The visual aspects of the ESPN broadcast remained intact, but the audio was unmistakably scratchy.

In addition, the audio was way ahead of the video, so viewers could hear the crack of the bat before they saw it. When ESPN came back after the break between the top and bottom of the seventh inning, the audio sounded much better, but was still ahead of the video.

ESPN play-by-play announcer Michael Kay recognized the "technical difficulties" and asked viewers to stay patient while they tried to work through it.

Viewers were quick to point out the audio issues, saying the broadcast "sounded like the radio on TV."
