Watch replay: Kamala Harris holds rally in Flint

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to make her first appearance in Flint since launching her presidential candidacy during a Friday night campaign rally to drum up enthusiasm for her White House bid in the final stretch of her campaign against former President Donald Trump.

Harris' visit to the Democratic stronghold comes after Trump made his own stop in the city last month for a town hall event in which he made no mention of the Flint water crisis, a departure from his last campaign stop to the city and the visits by other candidates since lead poisoned the city's water supply in 2014.

Before Harris' scheduled trip to Flint, she addressed a small crowd of union leaders and members at a Redford Township fire station. While the Redford Township event was invitation-only, those interested in the Flint event could register online to attend the rally.

The pair of events marked Harris' fourth visit to Michigan since launching her last-minute bid after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. In August, she held a campaign rally at an airport hangar outside Detroit and then stopped at a UAW local in Wayne County the next day. Last month, she addressed union members on Labor Day in a Detroit high school gymnasium and held a virtual campaign event hosted by Oprah Winfrey that was livestreamed from a Farmington Hills studio.

The polling website 538 shows Harris with a 1.6 percentage point polling average lead over Trump in Michigan as of Oct. 4. Absentee voting has already begun in Michigan.
