Why is Jason Benetti announcing the Michigan State football vs. Oregon football game for Fox?

Benetti, who just finished his first season as Detroit Tigers play-by-play man on Bally Sports Detroit, does not call Tigers playoff games, since national networks ABC, ESPN, TBS and Fox hold the rights. He missed the Tigers' wild-card series sweep this week of the Houston Astros. The Tigers play Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday at the Cleveland Guardians. Brian Anderson and Jeff Francoeur will be on the call from the TV booth for TBS.

Benetti is on the call for a primetime Big Ten conference game between the Ducks and Spartans (9 p.m. ET, Fox).

Benetti works for Fox Sports on national college football, college basketball and MLB assignments, and has previously worked for ESPN and NBC. Before the Pac-12's mass exodus, he called the league's basketball games for Fox alongside the late Bill Walton .

Benetti joined the Chicago White Sox as a rotational TV play-by-play announcer on NBC Sports Chicago in 2016. He handled full-time play-by-play duties from 2019-23, following Ken Harrelson's retirement.

The Tigers' broadcast partner is Bally Sports Detroit, but the company's owner is trying in court to drop the Tigers for the 2025 season. Have no fear, however: Benetti's contract is with the Tigers, not the network.

Benetti, diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a toddler, grew up in Homewood, Illinois, about 25 miles south of Chicago.
