If you need an excuse to have pizza, the time is now. October is National Pizza Month, and several metro Detroit establishments are offering special deals and helping those in need.

    Uno Pizzeria & Grill

Through Oct. 31, the Farmington Hills-based eatery is offering a deep-dish Chicago-style pizza with Detroit coney fixings (hot dogs, chili, mustard, and diced white onions). When you order one, Uno will donate $2 (for large pizzas) and $1 (for individual, small, and thin-crust pizzas) to Oakland County Foster Closet, which helps support local children in the foster care system. Pizza prices range from $13 to $26.

Guests who order the pizza and bring in a pack of new socks for Oakland County Foster Closet’s Socktober program get a complimentary appetizer. The offer is valid for dine-in only.

Oakland County Foster Closet, based in Farmington Hills, is a nonprofit agency that provides clothing, hygiene items, and school supplies to foster, at-risk, adopted, and qualified low-income children. For information, visit ocfostercloset.org.

Uno Pizzeria & Grill is inside the Delta Hotel Marriott, 37529 Grand River Ave. in Farmington Hills. You'll find its menu at marriott.com . Call 248-653-6067.

    Mootz Pizzeria + Bar

Located in downtown Detroit, Mootz is known for its New York-style pies. It announced a monthlong fundraiser to support people affected by Hurricane Helene in the southeast, particularly in hard-hit regions of North Carolina.

It will donate $1 from every 14-inch pizza sold to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, which supports nonprofits addressing the needs of storm victims. Mootz’s 14-inch pizzas are $29.

“We believe in the power of pizza to unite people, especially in times of need,” said Lisa Walters, the restaurant's operating partner. “This effort is a small yet meaningful way for us to extend our support to the people of North Carolina who are facing unimaginable challenges.”

In 2023, Mootz helped victims of the Maui wildfires in Hawaii by donating a portion of the proceeds from some of its pies to the Maui Strong Fund.

The menu at Mootz, at 1230 Library St. in downtown Detroit, was created by Bruno DiFabio, a six-time World Pizza Games champion. It also offers starters, salads, old-school New York favorites, beer, wine, and cocktails. For more information, visit mootzpizzeria.com .

    Buddy’s Pizza

The popular Detroit-based chain is celebrating National Pizza Month with several promotions, including an opportunity to support pets.

Throughout October, team members at Buddy’s 22 locations statewide will randomly distribute vouchers for free pizza for a year to unsuspecting customers. The vouchers cover one pizza per month. All customers who buy a four-square, eight-square, or all-corner pizza can order another pizza at half off with the BOGO24 coder. The offer is valid for dine-in, online, call-in, and carryout.

Buddy’s Pizza & Pets Partnership supports Michigan Humane. Those adopting any pet from Michigan Humane in October will get a voucher for a free four-square Buddy’s Pizza.

    Hungry Howie's

Hungry Howie’s “Love, Hope and Pizza” campaign is back for the 16th year to raise funds and awareness to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  Since the campaign began, the Madison Heights-based chain has raised more than $5 million by donating a portion of pizza sales throughout the month. Customers can also donate when ordering by rounding up their bill or by making an additional $1, $5, or $10 donation. Now through Oct. 31, Hungry Howie's continues its tradition of serving pizzas in pink boxes. There's also a limited-time Pink Pizza, $12, topped with mozzarella and edible pink glitter, available through Oct. 27 with 50% of the menu item's sales earmarked for NBCF.
