Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: Time, TV channel, more for season-opener

The Detroit Red Wings open their 2024-25 season at Little Caesars Arena against the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday at 8 p.m. on Bally Sports Detroit.

The Wings are looking to build off last year's season where they narrowly missed the postseason and have aspirations to make it right this year with a trip to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Last season, the Wings finished with a 41-32-9 record and missed the playoffs due to the Washington Capitals owning the season tiebreaker.

The Wings' season-opener was pushed back an hour because of the Tigers' playoff game on Thursday that will also be in downtown Detroit with a 6:08 p.m. start.

The Red Wings released this statement about the decision to move back the game: "With heavy traffic volume expected that evening in downtown Detroit, fans are encouraged to arrive early and to give themselves extra time by reserving parking in advance at Olympia Parking locations by visiting ParkWhiz.com ."

Although they only won three of their eight preseason games, the Wings split their two-game series with the Penguins.
