Detroit Tigers' Kerry Carpenter exits game after appearing to get hurt running bases

Kerry Carpenter, the hero for the Detroit Tigers in Game 2 of the ALDS, appeared to tweak his hamstring while rounding third to score the go-ahead run against the Guardians on Thursday.

Carpenter got on base with a single in the sixth inning, then moved to second when Riley Greene drew a walk before the Guardians made a pitching change. Colt Keith struck out in the first at-bat against Guardians pitcher Hunter Gaddis, but rookie Wenceel Pérez came up clutch with a bloop hit into right-center field to drive in Carpenter, who was running full speed to try and score and take the lead.

As Carpenter was rounding third, you could see him start to grimace and he looked in pain while fighting his way to score the go-ahead run.

Carpenter limped toward the bench after scoring the run and the TNT broadcast said that Carpenter went into the locker room. TNT's Jeff Francoeur speculated that it looked like a possible hamstring injury for Carpenter.

The good news for the Tigers is they don't need Carpenter in the field as he primarily plays DH, but any type of lower-body injury could still limit Carpenter at the plate or take him out of the lineup entirely.

Rookie Jace Jung pinch-hit for Carpenter the next time around, coming to the plate with two outs in the seventh inning.
