Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers good to go for Game 5 after negative X-ray on wrist

CLEVELAND — The Detroit Tigers have avoided a serious injury to one of their most important players, but are still waiting to hear about another.

After the back-and-forth loss against the Guardians in Game 4 of the ALDS , Tigers catcher Jake Rogers underwent an X-Ray on his left wrist after taking multiple foul balls to the same area right above the glove.

Rogers had his left forearm and wrist wrapped up with ice in the Tigers' locker room after Game 4.

The good news is the X-Rays were clean, and Rogers should be good to go for the massive Game 5 winner-take-all showdown in Cleveland on Saturday (1:08 p.m., TBS).

"I took a couple in the same spot," Rogers said while pointing to where his left hand and wrist meet just below the thumb. "But I got X-rays and everything was negative so I'm good to go."

Rogers said he received treatment from the team's medical staff this morning before the team left for Cleveland and is happy with his quick recovery despite a touch of lingering soreness.

"It feels better than I thought it would," Rogers said. "So, I'm good to go."

Rogers has started every game of the playoff run so far and also has been behind the plate for every Tarik Skubal start this season, a testament to his durability. Skubal is set to pitch the crucial Game 5 for the Tigers after dominant showings in his first two playoff starts of his career.

Later, manager A.J. Hinch said slugger Kerry Carpenter, who suffered a hamstring injury in the bottom of the sixth inning as he scored from second base on a Wenceel Pérez single, would be a "game-time decision" for the winner-take-all Game 5 on Saturday.

DON'T GIVE UP YET: Maybe I jinxed Detroit Tigers, but I still think they'll beat Guardians in Game 5 of ALDS

Carpenter started to limp after he rounded third base and was subbed out for Jace Jung for his next at-bat in the seventh inning.
