Although the Detroit Tigers ’ surprising playoff run came to an end over the weekend, the accolades are still rolling in.

Catcher Jake Rogers was named a Gold Glove finalist on Tuesday , as announced by Rawlings, which sponsors the award recognizing MLB’s top fielders.

The Gold Glove winners will be announced on Nov. 3.

It’s the first time as a Gold Glove finalist for Rogers, in his second full season as the Tigers’ primary catcher. He ranked fourth in Defensive Runs Saved, with 13, among AL catchers, and second in defensive runs above replacement, according to Fangraphs.

Rogers was particularly adept at framing, the practice of getting strike calls through glove placement. No AL catcher was better, according to Fangraphs’ framing runs metric, which had Rogers getting 13.6 runs with his glove, ahead of Seattle’s Cal Raleigh (12.9) and New York’s Austin Wells (10.5).

Raleigh is also a Gold Glove finalist, along with Kansas City’s Freddy Fermin. The two tied for the most DRS, with 16, though Fermin’s framing was actually a negative, accounting for minus-0.5 runs.

Another Tiger fielder was snubbed in the Gold Glove finalists, however: Riley Greene, who led all AL left fielders with 14 DRS was left out in favor of Baltimore’s Colton Cowser, Cleveland’s Steven Kwan and New York’s Alex Verdugo, who had four, nine and seven DRS, respectively, according to Fangraphs.

No Tiger has won a Gold Glove since second baseman Ian Kinsler was recognized in 2016. Zach McKinstry was a finalist at the Utility position last season, losing to Houston's Mauricio Dubón, and Jonathan Schoop was a finalist at second base in 2022, losing to Cleveland's Andrés Giménez.

Former Tiger Willi Castro, who played at least 27 games at five different positions for Minnesota this season, is a finalist at the Utility position this year.
