'Detroiters' finally arrives on Netflix, but the mystery of its delay lingers

Netflix went from chump to champ Wednesday by finally adding "Detroiters" to the streaming site after infuriating the show's fans by being a day late.

The cult Comedy Central series, which ran two seasons and dazzled critics with its goofy comedy, was supposed to be available Tuesday on Netflix, according to entertainment industry news sites and Netflix's own tweets. But "Detroiters" was nowhere to be found there on its official debut day, which prompted a number of angry social media posts.

The @WatchDetroiters fan account spoke the truth for die-hard fans when it tweeted, "This is like Christmas being postponed."

It was "Detroiters" vs. Everybody at Netflix, at least for a day.

But now "Detroiters" — all 20 episodes starring hometown heroes Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson — is available on the streaming site. And joy reigns in "Detroiters" land again.

"I promise that you will enjoy this show please watch!," tweeted @ITYSL_memes, while announcing the arrival with four separate emergency light emojis (possibly the same amount that would be used for tweet about a Detroit Lions Super Bowl victory).

Even the @Local4News account of WDIV-TV rejoiced by tweeting, "You can put down your mourning Vernors and grab your celebration Coney Dog, because it appears that we — and the internet at large — have cyberbullied Netflix into doing the right thing."

As of Wednesday evening, Netflix had not provided a reason for the delay. But it did drop a subtle acknowledgement of the late arrival.

Yesterday, several accounts on X (formerly Twitter) declared Netflix the Chump of the Week, borrowing the title of "Detroiters" guest star (and legendary former Detroit anchor) Mort Crim's fictional news segment from the series.

Today, Netflix's comedy-themed account on X, @NetflixIsAJoke, changed its banner photo to a picture of Crim. The graphic next to him declared @NetflixIsAJoke the chump of the week.

    Well played, Netflix. Well played.
