The Detroit Pistons' previous head coach has landed a new job — at the youth level.

Monty Williams, fired by the Pistons in June , has accepted a job at TMI Episcopal prep school in San Antonio coaching boys basketball, according to a report from NBA national reporter Chris Haynes . Williams will coach his son, Elijah, who attended Birmingham Brother Rice in Michigan last year.

Elijah Williams is among the top high school prospects in the country, currently ranked 18th in the 2026 class according to 247 Sports' composite ranking. At 6 feet 6, he's the seventh-ranked small forward.

It's a family-oriented move for Monty Williams, who is still owed $67.5 million over the next five years after signing a historic contract with the Pistons in 2023. Prior to the Pistons, Williams was head coach of the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans.

He has ties to San Antonio, spending two years with the Spurs as a player, a year with the coaching staff as an intern, and a stint as their vice president of player operations starting in 2016.
