Michigan football on Monday provided little update on All-American cornerback Will Johnson's injury .

Sherrone Moore said postgame following Michigan's 21-7 loss to Illinois on Saturday that Johnson exited the game because of "something he's been working through" and wouldn't comment further.

Moore on Monday didn't have a definitive answer on his star defensive back's status vs. MSU when he addressed reporters in Schembechler Hall, providing the same answer he gave moments earlier, when asked about the starting quarterback spot .

"We'll see," Moore said of Johnson, before he implied starting left tackle Myles Hinton was trending in a positive direction to return to play.

Moore was also asked about tight end Marlin Klein, who was carted up the tunnel on Saturday after spending time in the medical tent. Moore said there is hope for him to practice this week.

Johnson, the reigning first-team All-Big Ten selection and projected top-10 NFL draft pick in 2025 , suffered a left foot injury Saturday in the first quarter against Illinois and did not return to the game.

CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell reported on the TV broadcast that Johnson went right to the injury tent and "they changed out his shoes, his orthotics" on his left foot. Out of halftime, Johnson never came back on the field; the Free Press was down on the field during the final minutes of the game at Memorial Stadium, and saw Johnson sitting on the bench in pads, but not near his helmet.

Johnson left the USC game in Week 3 early with a shoulder injury and missed the following game against Minnesota before returning at Washington. He provides lockdown coverage in the passing game and is widely considered the top cornerback in America.

The Grosse Pointe South alum has two interceptions this season, both returned for touchdowns, in five games.
