Missing 6-year-old dies after being found in Lynch Cove
A 6-year-old child died after he was reported missing, then found in the waters of Lynch Cove in critical condition Friday morning. Marcel Traore, a non-verbal autistic boy, went missing around 5 a.m. Police responded around 7 a.m. and began canvassing the area. Firefighters and other first responders joined soon after, with divers and marine units searching Lynch Cove. Around 11:30 a.m., the missing boy was located in the water and rushed to Johns Hopkins Bayview hospital. He was later pronounced deceased. "This tragic incident underscores the importance of water safety for children, especially with the warm weather that is currently impacting the region," BCPD said in a statement. "The Baltimore County Police Department wants to remind residents that it only takes a second for a child to go under. Please provide constant supervision, whether at a pool or near a body of water."

The Dundalk High School Class of ‘62, a nonprofit fund established in 2003 to support outstanding graduating DHS seniors awarded $40,000 in scholarships during the DHS Awards Ceremony on June 6. Local students make President's List at UMGC
Several local students graduated from the University of Maryland Global Campus this month with honors on the President’s List. To qualify, students must graduate with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. The following students earned the honor: Julian Edwards earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity.Amber Criner earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies.Melissa O’Connell earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.Paul Fitch earned a Bachelor of Science in Software Development and Security. UMGC was established in 1947 to serve adults in the workforce. Del. Ric Metzgar makes surprise on-air visit to Jamie Costello
Delegate Ric Metzgar went to the WMAR 2 News television studios last week to present news anchor Jamie Costello, a Rosedale native, with a Maryland General Assembly citation to recognize his 37 years of service at the station. This next to the last 6 p.m. newscast walk on the set visit was arranged by Delegate Metzgar’s office and the WMAR 2 news director. The citation read, “In recognition of his 37 Years of Broadcast Excellence at WMAR 2 News. As a reporter and later a News Anchor, the boy who grew up on Coco Road in Rosedale who enjoyed going to Stewart’s Root Beer never forgot his roots. Governor pardons tens of thousands for marijuana convictions
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore ordered more than 175,000 pardons for marijuana convictions on Monday, saying the “most sweeping state-level pardon in any state” will help reverse harms from the past caused by the war on drugs. Baltimore County Executive vetoes school overcrowding bill
Last Thursday, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski vetoed a controversial bill meant to reduce overcrowding in schools.
