A fire in downtown Baltimore that burned a fiber optic cable on Sunday knocked out internet and power as far as Talbot County.

It knocked out internet in Baltimore County Public Libraries as well, a librarian told the Eagle, but internet was restored by Monday. The Enoch Pratt Free Library wasn't so lucky — it was closed on Monday, according to the Baltimore Banner.

At 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Banner, about 3,300 Baltimore Gas and Electric customers didn't have power.

The service that was out, Sailor Network, provides internet, IT infrastructure and accessibility, according to the Maryland State Library Resource Center.

“It is the backbone of Maryland libraries and of the more rural school systems,” Talbot County Free Library Director Dana Newman told the Star-Democrat. "Where the fiber optic lines come together were impacted by the fire. We don’t have any timing on when the service will be back up. It impacts our internet. We really can’t do anything."
