The cargo ship Dali experienced electrical blackouts about 10 hours before leaving the Port of Baltimore and yet again shortly before it slammed into the Francis Key Bridge and killed six construction workers, federal investigators said Tuesday, providing the most detailed account yet of the tragedy. Todds Inheritance welcomes Ship's Company Chanteymen
This Saturday, May 18, Todd’s Inheritance will be hosting a performance of 1812-era sea chanteys and a moving diorama of the Battle of Baltimore. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. when the singers of the Ship’s Company Chanteymen will perform sets of sea chanteys, rousing songs sung in four-part harmony, at approximately 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Between the performances, around 12:30 p.m., there will be a moving diorama of the thrilling Battle of Baltimore performed live! This production uses smoke effects and includes loud popping noises. The house and grounds will be open on Sunday, May 19, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tours. Todd’s Inheritance Historic Site is located at 9000 North Point Road, just outside Fort Howard. Admission is free during the 2024 season.
North Point-Edgemere VFD recognized for Key Bridge response
Local firefighters were presented with a Public Service Award last week for their lifesaving response to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Maryland Chamber of Commerce recognized members of the North Point-Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department at the event on Thursday, May 9, at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. Graceland UMC's Pastor Drew called away on military leave
Graceland United Methodist Church Pastor Drew Shropshire will be away on military leave from May 17 through June 10. Pastor Drew, a Network Communication Systems Specialist in the Maryland Army National Guard, will travel to Poland for annual training exercises. Immediately following that, he will be participating in the 29th Infantry Division’s D-Day celebration in France. The 29th Infantry Division is known for the battle of the beaches of Normandy, specifically Omaha Beach. Omaha was the most difficult beach for the Allies to invade, with steep cliffs, heavy fortification and difficult terrain. The 29th Infantry were responsible for capturing to the west of the beach on June 6, 1944. The Maryland Society of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) installed J.D. Urbach of Edgemere as the 101st Maryland State President at their 136th annual meeting held April 27 in Davidsonville.
