About the Francis Scott Key Bridge
Built near the spot where Francis Scott Key witnessed the bombardment of a fort that inspired what would become America’s national anthem, the namesake bridge collapsed into the Patapsco River after being struck by a cargo ship that reported losing power just before the crash. Rescue crews were looking for the bodies of six people who remained unaccounted for Tuesday afternoon and were presumed dead. “The words ‘the Key Bridge is gone,’ it’s still sinking in,” said Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. “For 47 years, that’s...
Weather, tides hampered bridge search efforts
At least six people, likely construction workers, were unaccounted for after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed Tuesday morning. Search parties Tuesday battled cold, murky waters, shifting tides and, most importantly, the clock as recovery efforts dragged on. The bridge collapsed around 1:30 a.m. after being struck by the cargo ship Dali. An eight-person construction crew was on the bridge, repairing potholes, when the center spans of the Key Bridge crumbled, Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said. ...

It was only a few hours...

Sunny weather shined on Dundalk’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade last Saturday, March 16, as waves of green, tartan kilts, bagpipe music, and the sound of McShane bells filled the neighborhood with Irish pride. It was a welcome return for the celebration, which braved 40-degree weather last March. In 2022, snow forced the organizers to cancel — but the tradition remains alive and well. The local St. Patrick’s Day Parade...

Long: Internet gaming not a good solution for balancing our budget
Currently in the Maryland Legislation there is a bill number HB1319 on Internet Gaming. This legislation will allow casino games online. While it would create additional revenue for the state and easier access, it would create job loss for our businesses and can create more addiction problems. It is estimated that if this law were to go into effect it would create around $500 million in revenue per year. In reality this is just moving funds around and not addressing the growing problems with this...

Long: Addressing the Maryland budget deficit
Currently, in the Maryland Government there is a 761-million-dollar deficit. By 2026, the state will have a deficit of over $3 billion. This is unacceptable and must be addressed. This is more concerning considering that Governor Hogan left Governor Moore with a surplus. I guess we should start calling him Governor Spend Moore. We cannot afford to fully fund Kirwan. Education is important but there is a lot of waste...

There is a proposal to rezone the area for residential housing development for approximately 500 homes. Currently the area has issues with traffic, overcrowded schools, and mail service. This will increase these problems and will also have environmental impacts. Currently, the problems with congestion are affecting our everyday life. Daily commutes will increase. Mail services have been facing challenges with the closure of the Fort...
Long: Still time to appeal Tax Assessments
About 100,000 Tax Assessment Notices were not mailed on time. Some of these delayed notices were in our district. I have heard from several constituents that their tax assessment notices were delayed. Another problem we are seeing is soaring property values. I recently hosted a townhall to talk about the tax assessment appeal process. I want to note that if you received your assessment notice late, you still have time to appeal your property’s new value. Now is the time to appeal if you think the assessed value is too high. Your tax bill in July will be based off...
