    A look back at 10 high school sports moments in El Paso for the 2023-24 school year

    The 2023-24 high school campaign has come to an end for El Paso area teams. Here is a look at some of the top moments of the school year.

    San Elizario wins soccer title

    The Eagles won their fourth state title in school history, claimimg the Class 4A title with a 1-0 win against Boerne. The Eagles have won four state titles in the past nine years and have never lost in a state title match.

    Chapin boys basketball team shines

    The Huskies made it to their second straight Region I-5A title game, losing to Amarillo High. The Huskies have made four straight showings in the regional tournament.

    Junior post Jayden Leverett emerged as one of the state's best prospects and is garnering Division I interest.

    Eastwood's Adelynn Rodriguez earns state medal

    Eastwood junior Adelynn Rodriguez has been a steady performer in cross country and track and field in her career for the Troopers. She capped her season at the UIL state track and field meet with a bronze medal in the 3,200 meters in Class 6A.

    She also qualified for the 1,600 meters and was a participant at the state cross country meet last November.

    Josiah Johnson makes mark in track and field

    Immanuel Christian senior track and field standout Josiah Johnson had a successful TCAF state track and field meet in Springtown.

    Johnson, who has signed with Northern Arizona University, won the long jump, 300-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash.

    Adios coach Reichman

    The legendary Bruce Reichman retired as the Del Valle boys soccer coach prior to the start of the season. He led Del Valle for 37 years and was inducted into the El Paso Athletics Hall of Fame in the process.

    Reichman started the soccer program at Del Valle in 1986-87, eventually winning a state-record 710 matches and two state championships in 2005 and 2008. He also had six total trips to the Final Four, the last one coming in 2021.

    Eastlake volleyball makes history

    The Falcons, who compete in Class 6A, won two playoff matches for the first time in school history and reached the regional quarterfinals.

    Tennis success

    El Paso has had a tradition of success in the high school ranks, but this year was among the best in recent years. Five athletes qualified for the state tourney: Coronado's Makenzie Baptist in Class 6A girls singles, El Paso High's Daniela Ocaranza in Class 5A girls singles, El Paso High's Maximus Martin in Class 5A boys singles and Franklin's Karina Lee and Aiden Fraire in Class 6A mixed doubles.

    Impressive football talent

    Heading into the 2024 football season, El Paso will have several Division athletes to keep an eye on: Del Valle QB Jake Fette, Del Valle RB Manny Fuller, Franklin lineman Justin Morales, El Dorado RB Ryan Estrada, Chapin RB/QB/WR Daveon Singleton and Pebble Hills WR Omarion Wallace. All of them have emerged as top flight recruits in the past year.

    Jesse Munoz wins 500th game

    The longtime Americas baseball coach won his 500th game this year in guiding the team to district and bi-district titles in Class 6A.

    During his time at AHS, his best seasons were in 2012 and 2023 when the team reached the regional quarterfinals.

    State champion wrestlers

    Americas' Erica Cobos and Bel Air's Cydney Davis proved to be elite on the wrestling mat this past February. Cobos won the 235-pound state title in Class 6A for the second straight season and Davis claimed her first Class 5A state title at 152-pounds.
