El Dorado High School's Jackie Schmidt has long carried a passion for softball and that has carried her a long way to a college scholarship.

But first up for the infielder is one last high school game when she competes for the Blue Team in the Greater El Paso Coaches Association All-Star game at the Eastwood softball field on Tuesday. First pitch is at 6: 30 p.m.

"Jackie has been everything you want in a person and player," El Dorado coach Adrian Telas said. "Jackie was a team captain for us, a person who loves the game and she embraced being a leader for us."

Schmidt finished her career with the Aztecs by hitting .537 with 11 homers and 47 RBIs. As a junior she was named All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association with a batting average of .605 and 13 homers.

"Being at El Dorado with my teammates and coaches was special to me," Schmidt said. "I wanted to help my teammates as much as I could and coach Telas has played a big role in my life. He's like a second dad to me. Softball has given me so much. I love it, I love to compete and it's given me so many great moments."

One of those moments is earning a chance to play at the next level at Texas A&M Texarkana where she will be reunited with her cousin Jacqueline Hernandez, who was part of the Americas state tournament team in 2022 as a catcher.

"To be able to continue my career alongside my family is special," Schmidt said. "My cousin is a great player and she has college experience and I know I can lean on her to help guide me."
