    Las Cruces Comic Con 2024 set for Aug. 17-18

    Have you been out to a ball game this season? El Paso Chihuahuas continue with homestand games. Among the most fun games will be Sunday's Bark at the Park, sponsored by GECU, when guests can bring their pets. Kids will be able to run the bases afterward.

    For those wanting some female rabble-rousing, there's the Roller Derby in the Northeast this weekend. Two exciting home bouts will be hitting the rink.

    In Las Cruces, organizers of the Las Cruces Comic Con are gearing up for their biggest event yet, which will feature a variety of celebrity guests and interesting panel discussions on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17-18.

    Here is a closer look at upcoming events.

    Las Cruces Comic Con 2024 set for Aug. 17-18

    The Las Cruces Comic Con featuring panel discussions, celebrity guests, entertainment and interactive exhibits, is set for Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17-18 at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave., Las Cruces. Hours will be: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

    Celebrity Appearances: Leland Chapman (Dog the Bounty Hunter), James Urbaniak (Venture Bros & Oppenheimer) , Noelle Hannibal (Star Trek), Chris Guerrero (One Piece & Overlord) , Melanie Kohn (Peanuts), Keving Duhaney (Power Rangers Dino Thunder), Jeff Parazzo (Power Rangers Dino Thunder), Tom Cook (classic 1980’s illustrator), and Mike Toth (Long time Disney artist), among others. Fans will have the opportunity to interact with their favorite stars through autograph sessions and photo opportunities.

    Single-day tickets are $20 for Saturday, and $25 for Sunday and weekend passes are $40. Tickets available at http://www.lascrucescomiccon.com

    Roller Derby on Saturday in Northeast El Paso

    El Paso Roller Derby continues this weekend with bouts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the Nation Tobins Sports Center, 8815 Railroad Dr. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Games are B.Y.O.B. and for ages 21+. No glass containers are allowed. Bring a chair to guarantee a seat inside the rink.

    Get $15 general admission tickets at: https://www.elpasorollerderby.com/.../derby-bliss-vs... Discounts for active military with ID at the door. Kids 10 and under get in free with a paying ticket. Free parking and food trucks.

    Bark at the Park at the El Paso Chihuahuas

    The remaining games for the El Paso Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park continue this week. An especially fun one will be Bark at the Park, where you can bring your dogs on a leash, at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

    All patrons who enter with their furry companion must show proof of the following current vaccinations: Rabies, Distemper, Leprosis, Parvo and Bordatella. There are no exceptions. Failure to comply will not allow entry to Southwest University Park. Tickets are available at the stadium box office and epchihuahuas.com .

    Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blue Society gathering

    Mesilla Valley Jazz & Blues Society will feature the Wrong 7 Jazz Quartet, made up of New Mexico State University students, at its monthly meeting Sunday, Aug. 18, at Alma D’Arte Charter High School, 402 W Court Ave., Las Cruces.

    El Paso artist to sell clay figures at Michael's

    El Paso artist Mercedes Alvarado, owner of Sweet Rose Clay Co , will sell her handmade clay jewelry from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Michael's, 1313 George Dieter Drive Ste C. Alvarado sells her polymer clay figurines and earrings on MakerPlace by Michaels , a new online marketplace that supports handmade artists.

    Photography exhibit at Nova Gallery

    Nova Gallery will feature a new photography exhibit, "Indecisive Moments" at Nova Gallery. The exhibit is by El Paso photographers Tim Holt and Abby Akachi and will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 3803 Frutas Ave.

    Tim Holt will debut his "Blurred" series, which delves into the relationship between time andmemory. Akachi is a rising star known for dynamic street photography.
