The Harvest supermoon shined bright Tuesday night, with stargazers getting a spectacular view of the celestial event on Sept. 17, which included a partial lunar eclipse.

Photos captured the glowing moon rising above the clouds and hovering in the night sky, leading many onlookers to wonder when the next full moon will be.

There are still three more chances to catch a full moon before the end of 2024. Here's when to keep your eye on the sky:

    Full moon October 2024

The next full moon — a Super Full Moon, to be exact — will be on Thursday, Oct. 17, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

It's also known as the Hunter's Moon, named in honor of the hunting of game animals that traditionally takes place in mid-to late autumn.

The Hunter's Moon will orbit closer to Earth than any other full moon this year, making one of the four supermoons of 2024.

    Other full moons in 2024

The next Supermoon is Friday, Nov. 15, which is also known as the Beaver Moon since beavers begin to build their dams before the ground freezes.

At the end of the year, just before the holidays, on Sunday, Dec. 15, you can expect to see the last full moon of 2024.

Commonly referred to as the “Cold Moon” for obvious reasons, the lunar event will happen just before the start of winter—the season is marked by the winter solstice, which occurs on Saturday, Dec. 21.

    Blood moon 2024?

Unfortunately, there won't be another blood moon in 2024. The next blood moon—when the moon appears red — won't happen until March 13-14, 2025.

A "blood moon" happens when Earth's moon is in a total lunar eclipse when Earth lines up between the Moon and the Sun.

    Phases of the moon

While it appears that the moon shines, it does not, instead it's reflecting sunlight, according to NASA.

As the moon orbits Earth each month, there's no continuous view of the entire side of the Moon that's facing the Sun, leading to the many phases we see.

The eight lunar phases are, in order: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and waning crescent. The cycle repeats once a month (every 29.5 days).

    How far is the moon?

The Moon is an average of 238,855 miles away from Earth, about 30 Earths away, according to NASA.
