    Amanda Mendoza wins El Paso Children's Hospital high school athlete for Sept. 17-21

    El Paso High volleyball player Amanda Mendoza is the El Paso Children's Hospital High School Athlete of the Week for Sept. 17-21.

    She had 48 assists and 16 digs in win vs. Chapin and 34 assists in win vs. Loretto Academy, both wins for El Paso High.

    Here are this week's top four vote getters:

    • Amanda Mendoza , El Paso High volleyball, 24,376 votes, 50.75%
    • Norman Montion , Coronado football, 20,338 votes, 42.34%
    • Alex Robles , Hanks football, 1,321 votes, 2.75%
    • Carlos Rojas III, Riverside football, 1,195 votes. 2.49 percent

    The El Paso Times will honor high school athletes this year every week that you, the readers, help determine. We will be taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the El Paso Children's Hospital High School Athlete of the Week at 7 a.m. each Tuesday.

    Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 3 p.m. each Thursday, and the winners will be announced Friday.

    Nominations can be submitted through email at fchavez@elpasotimes.com or by contacting Felix Chavez through social media on X.

    Here were this week's candidates:

    • Alex Robles , Hanks football. He eight catches for 184 yards and three touchdown passes in win vs. Horizon.
    • Norman Montion , Coronado football. He had 18 total tackles. an interception, a scoop and score from 90 yards out and a touchdown on offense in win vs. Parkland.
    • Daveon Singleton , Chapin football. He had 146 yards rushing, 4o yards receiving, two rushing touchdowns, four tackles and a pass breakup in win vs. Andress.
    • Carlos Rojas III , Riverside football. He rushed for 365 yards and five touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes in vs. Irvin.
    • Ryan Estrada , El Dorado football. He rushed for 336 yards and two scores, caught a touchdown and scored a two-point conversion in win at Eastwood.
    • Rodrigo Martinez , Ysleta football. He threw three touchdowns and rushed for a score in win vs. Mountain View.
    • Jesus Martinez , Fabens football. He threw for 295 yards, rushed for 105 yards and combined for five touchdowns in win vs. San Elizario.
    • Amanda Mendoza , El Paso High volleyball. She had 48 assists and 16 digs in win vs. Chapin and 34 assists in win vs. Loretto Academy.
