Verizon services are beginning to be restored after reportedly down across the country on Monday, Sept. 30, according to the wireless carrier.

On its official X account , Verizon said it was working around the clock to fix the issue.

"Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service has started to be restored. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today. We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue," the post said.

An outage map on downdetector.com showed several spots experiencing trouble with service on Monday. The most reported locations are Chicago, Phoenix, New York City and Denver.

    Verizon SOS on iPhone outage

An SOS symbol appeared on the screens of iPhone users who use Verizon, where cell service bars are normally shown.

According to Apple support, if you're having trouble with phone service and see SOS or "SOS only" in the status bar, your device can still make emergency calls despite not being connected to a phone network.

The purpose is that you can make calls to first responders in an emergency despite not having cellphone service. When users make an SOS call, the iPhone automatically calls the local emergency number and shares the user's location information with emergency services, according to Apple. Some countries and regions might need to choose the service they need.

If you need more help with the outage, you can contact Verizon Support.

If the cellular issue has been solved and you still can't connect to a cellular network, contact Apple support .
