ROCKY MOUNT — Due to Nash Community College’s continued partnership with Nash County Public Schools, the Center for Industry, Technology & Innovation High School is now located on the NCC campus. CITI High and early college students received a “Blue Love” welcome from Team Nash, County Manager Stacie Shatzer and state Rep. Allen Chesser for their first day of class in an Aug. 12 event the college plans to hold annually.

“This is a great time for us, especially me, as I have always considered CITI High a part of our family,” said college President Lew K. Hunnicutt. “We have already had the early college on campus for years, and now CITI High is here.”

Team Nash members handed out doughnuts accompanied by a welcome tunnel of support to encourage students as they adapt to their new environment.

“Our Eagle scholars were overjoyed with the welcome they received from NCC upon their arrival for the first day of school,” said Thomas McGeachy, principal of Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School. “Returning scholars and first-year students alike expressed gratitude for being made to feel so welcome and appreciated!”

The move to campus has various benefits, including access to NCC programs that weren’t previously available.

“A huge plus is that now that they are on campus, the possibilities are endless for all the programs in which they will be able to participate in the future,” Hunnicutt said. “Some logistical things have hindered those students from being able to take part in some of our skills offerings, but I have no doubt that we will now see growth over the next few years.”

Nash County Public Schools Superintendent Steve Ellis applauded the district’s partnership with the community college.

“Having our students on-site at NCC offers a fantastic opportunity for them to engage in high-quality education within a dynamic learning environment,” Ellis said. “We are excited to witness the positive impact this relocation will have on their academic journey. Here’s to a successful start to the new school year.”

“We have always worked extremely well together, and this is no different,” added Hunnicutt. “Due to the demerger (NCPS and Edgecombe County Public Schools), this move was something we had to make happen a little earlier than we planned, but I am so proud of our team for finding space to dedicate various classrooms in our D Building to become the learning spaces for CITI High.”
