Bailey, Middlesex, Spring Hope and Nashville elementary schools will offer after-school and summer programs for selected students with help from a three-year, $1,476,543 grant, Nash County Public Schools announced Friday.

The district will receive a federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant after applying for the money in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region, district spokesperson Heather Louise Finch said in a news release. NCPS was one of only eight recipients in the region, chosen from a pool of 33 applicants.

Authorized under Title IV, Part B of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center grants provide federal funding to establish or expand community learning centers. These centers aim to offer three key services: targeted academic support, quality enrichment experiences and family engagement opportunities during out-of-school hours.

Finch said Nashville Elementary, Bailey Elementary, Middlesex Elementary and Spring Hope Elementary parents can contact their children’s principal for information on after-school and summer activities.
